SZA Drops 'LANA' After Brief Delay, Packs Deluxe With Fan Favorites
SZA’s LANA album expands on her 2022 hit SOS, blending fan-favorite snippets, new collaborations, and personal storytelling into a highly anticipated deluxe release.
SZA’s highly anticipated album LANA has officially landed after a slight delay, much to the excitement of her fans. Initially expected to drop at midnight, the deluxe extension of her record-breaking 2022 album, SOS, became available Friday morning (Dec. 20). With 15 fresh tracks, the project delivers on its promise to expand SZA’s musical storytelling.
The album opens with “No More Hiding,” where SZA vulnerably sings, “No more hiding/ I wanna be real me, ugly/ No more fake me fighting.” From there, the tracklist flows effortlessly into songs like “What Do I Do” and “30 For 30,” the latter marking her first team-up with Kendrick Lamar since their standout collaboration on November’s GNX.
LANA also brings long-awaited snippets to life, including “Diamond Boy (DTM)” and “BMF.” Another standout, “Kitchen,” samples The Isley Brothers and reflects on love and shared history, giving listeners a taste of SZA’s reflective storytelling.
Fans were briefly worried when the album missed its original release time, but SZA explained it was due to ensuring mixes were perfected across all streaming platforms. To make up for the delay, she dropped a visually captivating video for “Drive,” starring actor Ben Stiller and featuring a whimsical blue grasshopper costume callback to her track “Crybaby.”
The journey to LANA hasn’t been without its challenges. Earlier this year, SZA faced leaks that forced her to start the project over. “You are a f**king thief,” she tweeted, expressing her determination to hold those responsible accountable. Despite these setbacks, LANA arrives as a testament to her perseverance and artistry.
Looking ahead, SZA is gearing up to hit the road with Kendrick Lamar on their Grand National Tour, starting in April 2025. The stadium tour promises to light up cities across North America, from Los Angeles to Toronto, with potential surprise appearances by Top Dawg Entertainment artists like Doechii and Jay Rock.
