With her new album HEARTS SOLD SEPARATELY on the horizon, Mariah the Scientist returns with another pre-release single and this time, she’s bringing Kali Uchis into her world.
Released Thursday (July 31), “Is It a Crime” marks the first collaboration between the two artists. Produced by Mat1k and Nineteen85, the track finds both singers unpacking the idea of falling in love more than once and whether or not that should be judged.
Mariah sets the tone on the opening verse, singing:
“Sometimes I look around for someone who might understand it / I seen it in they eyes that they'll, they'll never get it.”
Kali steps in on the second verse with:
“Is it a crime? How’s it a crime? No / ’Cause if loving me is jail, then you're my prisoner / So let me throw away this key 'cause you won't give me up.”
The single follows Mariah’s viral May release “Burning Blue” and keeps the energy going as she builds toward HEARTS SOLD SEPARATELY. This new era is shaping up to be some of her most emotionally transparent work to date.
